“You travel not to see the new but to look in a different way at the old.”
Chinese Proverb
Walk Songs is a special album to me.
It is only the second album after a solo record, ‘Ornette on Bass’, signed only by me and containing mostly my compositions.
These compositions – although ‘sketches’ would be a more appropriate term I have written and gathered over a period of several years and very carefully selected for this album..
The main motivation behind my decision to record this album was to grasp the nature of music in its best and brightest moment and at the same time giving it an interstylistic and timeless direction.
In order to achieve this goal I invited the co-operation of my favourite and outstanding musicians who are alien to musical obscurantism and cultural barriers and for whom complexity and multi-layered structure in music are their daily bread.
The work on the album was accompanied by an avalanche of accumulating problems and moments of lost patience and though most of my previous projects had not faced so many quite prosaic difficulties, finally everything was brought under control by transposing the accumulated emotions into the ground of music.
Music is like traveling, each journey is seen through the life of each person which in turn, becomes the life of the passage. The cost of this journey, was well worth the final result..
